Dr. Mona L. Camacci, MD, MS is a Board-Certified ophthalmologist specializing in retinal, macular, and vitreous diseases. She practices in Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, and Beaufort South Carolina with Retina Consultants of Charleston.

Dr. Camacci graduated from Franklin & Marshall College with dual majors in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Health and Human Rights. As a George J. Mitchell scholar, she earned an MS in Equality Studies from University College Dublin. She completed her medical training at Penn State College of Medicine as a Paul and Daisy Soros fellow, followed by an Ophthalmology residency at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and a fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the University of Rochester.

Dr. Camacci has expertise in managing complex retinal diseases, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, secondary intraocular lenses, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, artery and vein occlusions, and retinal detachments.

Dr. Camacci developed an interest in recruitment after recognizing the lack of support and practical advice available for soon-to-be graduates. While seeking her first job post-fellowship, she actively sought guidance from both old and new mentors. Now, with the help of her partner Dr. Ghiassi, she aims to streamline the process for future fellows, helping them secure the right positions with greater ease.

Dr. Maryam Ghiassi, MD, is a Board-Certified ophthalmologist specializing in retinal, macular, and vitreous diseases. She practices in Sacramento California with Retina Consultants Medical Group.

Dr. Maryam Ghiassi grew up in Canada, Iran, and Japan before moving to the U.S. for college. She majored in biophysics and biochemistry at Yale and stayed there for medical school, where she discovered her passion for ophthalmology. She then completed an internship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC, followed by an ophthalmology residency at Columbia University, where she served as chief resident. She finished her vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver.

Maryam Ghiassi, MD MHS

Dr. Ghiassi’s international upbringing has instilled in her a deep appreciation for different cultures and value systems, which influences her patient-centered approach to care. She believes understanding patients’ unique needs, concerns, and goals is vital in providing exceptional care.

Dr. Ghiassi’s interest in medical recruitment developed during her residency and fellowship while searching for her first job. Recognizing the lack of comprehensive resources for graduating fellows, she co-founded a firm with Dr. Camacci. Their firm aims to bridge this gap by leveraging their extensive network and deep appreciation for diverse cultures, ensuring the best fit for both practitioners and healthcare institutions.
